Prior to any surgery, a blood test will be recommended to ensure the good metabolic health of your animal. In addition, an annual blood test (geriatric profile) will be suggested as a preventative measure when your pet reaches its 7th year. Some metabolic problems develop more in older animals and it is easier to provide effective treatment that will allow your pet to live longer in good health if they are detected early. The following problems are likely to be identified by these tests: kidney failure, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, liver failure, etc.

Blood tests will also be suggested if your pet comes to us for a specific health problem. However, it is important to realize that these tests cannot diagnose everything. They constitute a first-line screening test. Additional tests may be suggested if necessary.

Most blood samples are sent to a private laboratory for analysis. Results are normally available the same day or within 24 hours. Accès Vet also has its own analysis laboratory allowing certain basic tests to be carried out and the results obtained within a short time.
