ELECTROCARDIOGRAM

Measurement of the heart's electrical activity is called an electroencephalogram (ECG). An ECG is recommended in all cases where a heart murmur or arrhythmia is detected during auscultation.

ENDOCRINE DISORDERS

Follow-up of patients with endocrine disorders. Diabetes, Hyperthyroidism (Cat), Hypothyroidism (Dog), Hyperadrenocorticism (HAC), Hypoadrenocorticism (Adisson).

KIDNEY PROBLEMS

Follow-up of patients with renal failure

Renal failure can be acute or chronic. In both cases, there is an accumulation of nitrogenous waste products in the blood (uremia). Blood tests usually reveal other concomitant abnormalities.

Acute renal failure may be reversible, provided treatment is administered rapidly and aggressively.

In the acute phase, presenting signs usually include: sudden anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea, bad breath, increased thirst and urine production.

Diagnosis is based on blood and urine tests. Blood pressure should also be assessed. Abdominal X-rays and ultrasound are also suggested.

Emergency treatment consists of administering a high flow of intravenous solutions to eliminate nitrogenous waste before it causes irreversible damage. To achieve this, the animal must be hospitalized for at least 3 days. Complementary treatments may also be instituted, depending on the complexity of the problem.

The presence of chronic renal failure implies that 75% of the renal mass is non-functional. Clinical signs are related to the severity of renal dysfunction and the presence or absence of hypertension.

Treatment depends on the signs of presentation, and on the presence or absence of uraemia. In some cases, as in acute failure, hospitalization for a few days is necessary. In less critical cases, a simple change of diet is required. Medications specific to the stage of kidney disease will also be suggested if necessary.

HEART PROBLEMS

Accès Vet veterinarians can diagnose the most common heart problems. They can take the first diagnostic steps by performing chest X-rays. We can also monitor blood pressure and the heart's electrical activity (ECG).

We work in collaboration with a veterinarian specialized in cardiology. For a complete cardiac evaluation, our specialist can travel to the Accès Vet facility of your choice to carry out his or her examination and the cardiac ultrasound usually proposed.

OPHTALMOLOGY
